For those of you mounting your own flat skins, here’s a pro tip for trimming the excess: I use a utility knife equipped with ground and deburred hook blades. Deburring is the process of removing small imperfections (called burrs) from machined metal, which helps prevent accidental cuts to the playing surface.
This tool has been my go-to for mounting tens of thousands of skins—it’s definitely one of my best friends in the shop!
