We recently upgraded the flesh hoop and skin on the hembra of these JCR bongos for a customer in Indiana. She requested a slightly brighter and more resonant sound to compliment the very bright and resonant sound of x-ray material on the macho. I mounted a 1.4mm horse skin with a 3/16″ round 304 stainless steel flesh hoop.
