We always enjoy working on historically significant drums. This set of vintage walnut JCR congas was made in a small shop by maestro Calixto (Cali) Rivera in the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx, New York.
Here’s a time lapse of how I mount skins on a set of vintage JCR congas. I chose 2mm steer for the conga and 2.2mm steer for the tumba. I also cleaned and lubricated the tuning lugs. Manito fabricated new 304 stainless steel flesh hoops.
This set belongs to our friend and customer in Atlanta, and is not for sale.
